eBay is seeking an experienced attorney to join the Legal team supporting our Global Trade and Logistics organization. You will provide strategic legal and regulatory advice on EU customs, export, and cross-border trade matters, partnering closely with Global Shipping, Regulatory, Product, Engineering, and other teams.
This role will develop new logistics capabilities and scalable solutions that ease cross-border trade for eBay customers. It will also provide advice on changing EU import regulations and trade protocols.
The role can be based in Amsterdam, Netherlands or Berlin, Germany, with a hybrid workstyle.
Advise on the design, development, launch, and evolution of new business models, products, and features, with a focus on scalable global solutions.
Counsel Global Shipping and Regulatory teams on EU customs and export requirements, including developments related to EU Customs Reform.
Monitor changes in customs and trade requirements and translate complex regulations, rulings, and regulatory developments into clear, practical mentorship for business, compliance, product, and engineering teams.
Advise on technology and operational solutions that enable eBay customers to participate in cross-border trade.
Partner with teams including Tax, Sanctions Compliance, Risk, Finance/Treasury, Accounting, Marketing, Privacy, Information Security, Internal Audit, and Government Relations to address complex trade and regulatory matters.
Anticipate relevant regulatory developments, assess their potential business impact, and provide practical advice to leadership.
Draft and negotiate commercial agreements supporting Global Shipping programs, including EU export and intra-EU trade initiatives, while handling multiple complex and high-priority matters.
Lead several intricate and urgent issues effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Qualification and admission to practice law in Germany or the Netherlands, with 6+ years of relevant legal or regulatory experience advising on customs and trade matters.
Strong knowledge of EU and international customs and trade regulations, including customs rulings, and an understanding of how the global customs ecosystem applies to cross-border ecommerce.
Experience providing practical, commercially focused regulatory advice and working across functions to solve complex problems and support business objectives.
Ability to handle multiple high-priority matters, exercise sound judgment, and deliver high-quality work within deadlines as regulations, business models, and priorities evolve.
Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with professional fluency in English; fluency in French and German is preferred.
Relevant experience may include work with logistics organizations, carriers, manufacturers, retailers, technology or ecommerce companies, or government agencies.
Preferred experience as a customs broker, working with a customs brokerage, or working directly with or for EU customs institutions or national customs administrations is highly valued.
