At Amazon’s World Wide Design Engineering transportation team we are using ground-breaking technologies to develop logistics systems on an unprecedented scale. Our team is responsible for delivering the next generation of world-class fulfillment and transportation facilities. We are looking for a talented professional to join our Transportation Design Team who will support the expansion of Amazon's network. This leader is customer focused, creative, technically skilled, with a passion for innovation, and possesses the ability to multi-task, communicate effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

As an Innovation and Design Engineer for the Transportation team, you will be able to work with some of the most talented engineers in the design and development of physical distribution centers around the globe. A successful candidate will have experience designing and building large and complex high performance systems, and possess an internal motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment. Additionally, a successful candidate will also have a strong technical problem solving ability, excellent project management skills, and a knack for thinking creatively. Key job responsibilities
- Responsible for various facility designs from the time projects are selected to the successful launch for the Operations team to start delivering customer packages.
- Invent, design, and implement engineering solutions to complex material flow and human/machine efficiency problems throughout the global Amazon supply chain.
- Lead and coordinate design and innovation efforts to develop optimal solutions for the transportation network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to generate high quality, cost effective solutions in very short periods of time.
- Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors.
- Provide technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects.

Basic qualifications

- Experience in management of engineering design projects
- 3+ years of Design/Innovation, research & development, manufacturing, process, industrial engineering, or related experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (any domain) or foreign equivalent, Operations, Business Administration, or a related field

Preferred qualifications

- Master's degree in Engineering (any domain) or foreign equivalent, Operations, Business Administration, or a related field
- Knowledge of concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making
- Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems and high-speed manufacturing
- Experience with design-in-safety
- Experience with process design based on Lean Principles

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
