Principal Multimodal LLM Research Scientist, XR

• Lead a research agenda focused on state-of-the-art multimodal pre-training, architecture design, and novel deep learning techniques for spatial computing.
• Develop groundbreaking models that integrate vision, audio, and sensor data to provide a unified understanding of the physical world.
• Publish original research in machine learning and computer vision conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML) to advance the field and represent Google’s leadership.
• Translate fundamental research breakthroughs into scalable technical strategies for the Android XR product organization.
• Mentor research scientists and engineers, providing technical direction and fostering an environment of high-impact innovation.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Computer Science, AI, Physics) or equivalent practical experience.
• 15 years of experience in deep learning research, with a focus on multimodal or language models.
• Experience leading research teams and delivering technological innovations.
• Experience with modern deep learning frameworks and distributed training on clusters.

Preferred qualifications:

• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field with a focus on Multimodal AI or Computer Vision.
• Ability to bridge the gap between theoretical research and practical implementation on consumer-facing hardware.
• Deep specialized expertise in state-of-the-art multimodal pre-training strategies and transformer-based architectures.
