Senior Software Engineer

The PALM Team (Proactive Alert Lifecycle Management) is part of Microsoft Security’s Identity division, focused on reducing time to detect (TTD) and time to notify (TTN) for service incidents across critical identity platforms. We build intelligent systems that proactively detect, triage, and communicate outages—empowering service owners and incident managers to resolve issues faster and more transparently. Our team leads the development of tools that streamlines incident investigation and response. We leverage machine learning to help on call engineers for better incident mitigation. We are deeply embedded in Microsoft’s AI transformation, applying large language models to simplify incident workflows and reduce cognitive load during live site events. • Build and operate production-grade AI workflows, including investigation orchestration, context retrieval, search indexing, evaluation, and feedback loops.
• Drive adoption across Identity service teams by designing scalable onboarding, access-control, data-isolation, and lifecycle-management mechanisms.
• Define measurable success criteria and use telemetry, Kusto data, and structured evaluations to demonstrate improvements in investigation quality, reliability, and engineer time saved.
• Build and maintain AI-integrated tools. Drive a project through to delivery removing obstacles as needed to ensure success.
• Champion and drive improvements to team software engineering practices.
• Promote knowledge sharing and contribute to onboarding documentation for new engineers.
• Act as a participant in the on-call rotation to monitor service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and perform complex incident management and problem resolution for the service.
  
  

Required Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

• This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Strong software engineering experience designing, implementing, and operating distributed, multi-tenant cloud services. 
• Demonstrated ability to lead ambiguous technical initiatives, make sound architectural decisions, and deliver across multiple teams and organizational boundaries.
• Proficiency with C# and Azure service development, including identity, authorization, managed identities, telemetry, deployment, and operational readiness.
• Experience building or integrating AI-assisted systems using large language models, retrieval, orchestration, search, or evaluation frameworks.
• Strong data-analysis skills, including the ability to use telemetry and Kusto queries to diagnose behavior and measure product outcomes.
• Proven commitment to engineering quality through clean design, automated testing, security reviews, observability, and disciplined failure handling.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical tradeoffs, influence senior stakeholders, and mentor other engineers.
  
  

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across Czechia is Kč 1,338,000.00 - Kč 2,448,000.00 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
