As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll design and build large-scale distributed systems that enable AI-powered voice agents, multimodal intelligence, and agentic experiences across Microsoft products.This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of cloud-scale services, AI, real-time communications, and Copilot innovation while helping shape the future of intelligent collaboration. 

This position is based in Redmond, Washington and requires the employee be in the office a minimum of 3 days per week.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and operate highly scalable distributed services powering AI-driven communications and collaboration experiences.
  • Develop next-generation platforms that extract insights and semantic understanding from voice, video, screen sharing, and meeting interactions.
  • Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, designers, and partner engineering teams to deliver innovative customer-focused solutions.
  • Drive system architecture, technical design, and engineering excellence with a focus on scalability, reliability, security, and performance.
  • Leverage modern AI technologies, agentic workflows, and cloud services to create intelligent enterprise experiences.
  • Improve service health through observability, automation, incident response, and operational excellence.
  • Mentor engineers, contribute to design and code reviews, and help foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
  • Take ownership of end-to-end delivery from design and implementation through production operations and customer impact.


Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience building large-scale distributed systems, cloud services, or enterprise platforms.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C#, C++, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Experience designing reliable, highly available, and observable production services.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML technologies, LLMs, agentic systems, NLP, speech technologies, or real-time communications platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and drive technical decisions.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across teams and influence technical direction.
  • Passion for innovation, customer impact, and building services that operate at global scale.
  • Experience with prompt engineering, evaluation strategies, and model hosting best practices.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
