Overview

The Audit Ingestion team is responsible for building and operating large-scale distributed systems that ingest, process, and store critical audit and compliance data across Microsoft's cloud environments. These services form a foundational part of the compliance platform and are relied upon by downstream security, governance, and analytics systems. As a Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and operate highly scalable backend services and data pipelines. You will work on challenging distributed systems problems involving reliability, performance, observability, and operational excellence while collaborating with engineers across multiple platform teams. The role requires a strong sense of ownership, including participation in live-site operations and continuous service improvement.

Responsibilities

Own components responsible for ingestion, processing, storage, and movement of large-scale audit and telemetry data. Drive reliability improvements through automation, observability, and reduction of operational toil. Participate in on-call and incident response, ensuring rapid mitigation and long-term corrective actions. Design and implement resilient distributed-system solutions that operate reliably across multiple regions and cloud environments. Collaborate on platform modernization, compliance, and scalability initiatives to support evolving business and regulatory requirements.



Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2+ years of professional software engineering experience using languages such as C#, Java, Python, or C++.
  •  Experience designing, developing, and debugging backend services, distributed systems, or large-scale data processing solutions.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and modern software development practices, including source control, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to investigate production issues, analyze root causes, and implement durable solutions.

Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

- Experience building highly available and scalable cloud services on Azure or similar cloud platforms. - Experience with distributed data stores, messaging systems, stream processing, or large-scale data pipelines. - Familiarity with observability tools, telemetry, monitoring, and incident response practices. - Experience improving service reliability, performance, security, and operational efficiency. - Knowledge of compliance, security, governance, or audit-related systems. - Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams. - Experience participating in an on-call rotation and operating production services at scale.
