Japan Store Tech (JST) is a global innovation hub rooted in deep knowledge of customers and businesses in Japan. We combine Amazon’s global technology capabilities with local expertise to create and improve experiences for customers in Japan. We build for Japan first while designing successful solutions so they can scale globally.
We are looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager to lead a new, strategic customer experience for Amazon Japan. This is a high-visibility role responsible for a large and technically complex program spanning customer-facing experiences, distributed services, data flows, and integrations with multiple Amazon and external systems.
You will drive the program from its early definition and technical planning through development, launch, operational readiness, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with engineering, product, business, operations, security, legal, and other teams in Japan.
This role requires more than schedule and status management. You must be able to engage engineers and senior technical leaders in architecture discussions, understand dependencies and failure modes across complex systems, and identify risks created by technical or organizational complexity. You will influence teams without direct authority, resolve disagreements, and establish mechanisms that make delivery faster and more predictable.
This is an opportunity to help Amazon Japan create a new customer proposition, solve complex technical and business problems, and build capabilities with the potential to benefit customers beyond Japan.
At Amazon, you'll work alongside the latest AI and GenAI tools that are increasingly woven into how teams operate: from AI-powered capabilities that accelerate decision-making, to Generative AI that helps you focus on work that truly matters. You'll have opportunities and resources to develop AI fluency at your own pace, with continuous learning built into the culture.
Key job responsibilities
- Translate ambiguous customer and business needs into clear program objectives, technical requirements, success metrics, roadmaps, and milestones.
- Partner with engineers, product managers, and senior technical leaders to drive decisions about system architecture, interfaces, data flows, integrations, and implementation strategy.
- Build and maintain an integrated program plan covering the critical path, cross-team dependencies, decisions, resources, risks, and release readiness.
- Identify risks related to technical complexity, external dependencies, resource constraints, quality, security, privacy, compliance, and operations; drive mitigations before they become delivery blockers.
- Coordinate technical integrations with internal systems and external partners, including requirements, interface agreements, testing, launch sequencing, and operational ownership.
- Define program-health, customer-impact, quality, and operational metrics; use data to identify problems and drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure that security, privacy, legal, and operational requirements are incorporated into designs, delivery plans, and launch decisions.
- Communicate complex technical and business topics clearly to audiences ranging from engineers to senior leaders.
- Resolve disagreements and priority conflicts across teams. When escalation is required, present clear options, their consequences, and a recommended path.
- Establish durable mechanisms that improve accountability, decision speed, and delivery predictability across participating teams.
A day in the life
You will work with engineering, product, business, operations, and specialist teams to turn an ambiguous customer need into an executable technical program. Depending on the program stage, you will drive architecture and integration decisions, manage dependencies and risks, resolve blockers, prepare for launch, or use customer and system metrics to guide improvements.
The role requires moving comfortably between strategic planning and technical detail while keeping teams focused on the customer outcome.
