We are seeking an enthusiastic Industry 4.0 Application Developer Intern to join our manufacturing facility in Higashimatsuyama, Japan. In this role, you will support the development and maintenance of software applications that drive digital transformation within our plant. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, you will gain hands-on experience at the intersection of manufacturing and technology, learning how to create solutions that enhance productivity and enable data-driven decision-making across our operations. Your task(s) will include:
1. Assist in developing and deploying Industry 4.0 applications to our internal plant systems
2. Support the design and implementation of applications that integrate IoT devices, sensors, and automation systems under senior developer guidance
3. Collaborate with manufacturing departments to understand requirements and learn how to translate them into technical specifications
4. Participate in manufacturing process optimization initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement projects
5. Support troubleshooting and maintenance of internal applications in production environments with mentorship from experienced team members
6. Learn to analyze system performance and contribute to identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements
7. Participate in code reviews, receive feedback, and contribute to learning best practices in code quality and security
• Required Specialized knowledge:
1. Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree programm in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
2. Foundational knowledge in at least one programming language such as Java, Python, or C++
3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
4. Ability to work effectively in organized, structured development environments
Willingness to learn Industry 4.0 concepts and manufacturing technologies
• Preferred language abilities:
1. Fluent English required
• Preferred skills:
- Experience or coursework in software development using Java, Python, C++, or AI/Deep Learning applications
- Familiarity with IoT platforms, database management, or data integration concepts
- Knowledge of real-time systems or edge computing principles
- Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or industrial software platforms
- Exposure to agile development methodologies or version control systems
- Interest in data visualization and analytics tools for manufacturing intelligence
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes or industrial automation systems
- Previous internship or project experience developing applications for enterprise environments
• Additionally, you should:
Be able to stay for a period of 6-12 months at our company
Be regularly enrolled at a university during the entire internship period
Be flexible, willing and motivated to live and work in a different culture
Target Internship Period: 12 months (starting: from February 2027 onwards / depending on visa)
*We offer a very competitive monthly net allowance of 200,000 Yen on a full-time scheme. We will also provide you with all necessary documents and information for a successful Designated Activities visa application. Please note that the full visa process may take up to three months. Furthermore, applicants who intend to have an internship period for 12 months/already hold residence status in Japan will receive a monthly gross allowance.
**Japanese Nationals:
Please note that Japanese nationals do not require a visa process. Depending on the needs of the receiving department, students fulfilling this condition may begin their internship within one month of being hired.
***Exchange students
Please note that foreign nationals on a student visa with permission for part-time job (資格外活動許可) do not require a visa process. Students fulfilling these conditions will be eligible to work on a part-time scheme only. Depending on the needs of the receiving department, exchange students may begin their internship within one month of being hired.
****Non-Japanese Nationals (visa requirements):
Please note that applicants who are not Japanese nationals need to be eligible to obtain the Designated Activities Visa for an internship with Bosch Japan. Therefore, only students who fulfill the following conditions are eligible to apply:
A.) Enrolled student at a university at least 3 months before the internship and during the entire internship period.
B.) Doing the internship will require your university to sign a document confirming that the internship represents a mandatory or strongly recommended part of your university curriculum when applying for your visa.
Please be aware that we will not:
A.) Carry out country specific tax treaty procedures.
