Overview

The High Security Environment (HSE) team safeguards some of Microsoft's most critical trust infrastructure, including certificate authorities, cryptographic key management systems, hardware security modules (HSMs), code signing, and secure supply chain services that help protect Microsoft products, services, devices, and customers worldwide. Engineers on the team build and operate highly secure, high-availability systems that form the foundation of Microsoft's digital trust ecosystem. This role combines software engineering with security-focused operations, providing opportunities to develop secure services and automation, improve reliability and compliance, and support trusted infrastructure deployed across datacenters and secure operational facilities. Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain secure services and automation that support Microsoft's certificate authorities, cryptographic key management systems, code signing, and trusted infrastructure. Improve the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of high-security platforms through software engineering, monitoring, testing, and automation. Partner with security, infrastructure, and engineering teams to deliver solutions that meet security, compliance, and availability requirements for critical trust services. Investigate and resolve service issues, operational events, and reliability challenges while contributing to the continuous improvement of secure production systems. Support trusted infrastructure deployed across secure datacenters and operational facilities, gaining hands-on experience with the systems and processes that protect Microsoft's most sensitive assets. Support the deployment, operation, and maintenance of trusted infrastructure in secure datacenters and controlled-access facilities, collaborating with engineering and security teams to ensure the security and availability of critical services.



Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 1+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, PowerShell, Python, or Go, OR equivalent experience. Experience designing, developing, testing, or supporting production software systems, cloud services, or enterprise infrastructure platforms. Experience working with security technologies, identity systems, cryptography, certificate management, hardware security modules (HSMs), or related trusted computing technologies. Ability to support operational activities in secure environments, including occasional work within datacenters, Security Operations Centers (SOCs), or other controlled-access facilities as required to maintain security and availability of critical infrastructure.

Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Experience developing, operating, or supporting security-sensitive services, cloud platforms, or enterprise infrastructure at scale. Familiarity with cryptographic technologies such as PKI, certificate lifecycle management, hardware security modules (HSMs), identity systems, or secure key management. Experience with automation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and reliability engineering using modern software development and operational practices. Ability to work in highly regulated environments that may require visits to secure datacenters, Security Operations Centers (SOCs), or controlled-access facilities while collaborating with cross-functional engineering and security teams. 



Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across Ireland is € 49,500.00 - € 83,900.00 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
