Job Description

Head of PMO & Product Operations

As the Head of PMO & Product Operations at Capital One, you will build and run the operating backbone for a complex, multi-team organization. That means owning how work flows, how capacity gets planned and allocated, where the system can run leaner, and how this organization connects with the other organizations it depends on and serves. You will work with senior leaders across the company to shape an operating model built to scale, then lead a team that turns that model into steady, repeatable execution.

About the Team:
This team operates a portfolio of product and risk operations teams with roughly 200 associates that drive impact across our entire enterprise.  The leader in this org will play a key horizontal role across various verticals reporting directly to the Managing Vice President of Product.

Responsibilities of the Head of PMO & Product Operations:

  • Owning the operating model for the organization: how priorities are set, how capacity is planned, and how work is sequenced and tracked across teams
  • Driving efficiency and capacity management across the system: identifying bottlenecks, rebalancing load, and ensuring the organization's resourcing matches its highest priority commitments
  • Designing and running the mechanisms (planning cycles, governance forums, reporting cadences) that give leadership visibility into delivery health, risk, and tradeoffs as they emerge
  • Serving as the connective layer between this organization and the ones it interconnects with: aligning dependencies, surfacing cross-org risks early, and brokering tradeoffs so commitments made across boundaries actually hold
  • Leading and developing a team of program and project managers and operations associates, setting the standards and tools they use to manage complex, dynamic work
  • Partnering with senior stakeholders to translate strategy into an executable plan, and refining that plan as priorities and constraints shift
  • Building scalable, repeatable processes that cut down on ad hoc firefighting and make the organization more predictable over time

The person will:

  • Think in systems: able to see how capacity, dependencies, and incentives interact across an organization, not just within a single project
  • Exhibit outstanding influencing skills to drive alignment across teams and leaders who do not report to them
  • Bring a proven track record of standing up or significantly maturing a PMO, operations, or similar operating model function
  • Display a passion for coaching and developing a team through a clear, consistent leadership style
  • Communicate with precision and credibility at all levels: translate operational complexity into clear choices for executives, and clear direction for teams

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience
  • At least 10 years of project management experience
  • At least 5 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters / MBA degree
  • 12+ years of project management experience
  • 6+ years of people management experience
  • PMP, Lean, Agile or Six Sigma certification
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
  • Excellent problem solving and influencing skills
