Job Description

American Express' Risk Management capabilities are central to delivering a strong customer experience while managing credit and fraud risk. The Risk Products & Data Strategy (RPDS) organization is modernizing risk platforms and enabling new business capabilities across a more digital and connected payments ecosystem.

The Manager, Digital Product Development will combine Product Manager and Product Owner responsibilities to help develop and deliver authentication and fraud-risk capabilities supporting AI-assisted and AI-initiated commerce, including customer and agent trust signals. The role will translate business, customer, fraud, identity and technology needs into product requirements, roadmaps, features and controls; partner with Risk, Technology, Architecture, Data Science, Information Security and servicing teams; and support pilots and scaled launches while balancing security, customer friction, platform performance and speed to market.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the product roadmap and delivery for authentication and fraud-risk assessment capabilities.
  • Combine Product Manager and Product Owner responsibilities: shape process vision and business architecture; capture and groom requirements; prioritize the backlog; define acceptance criteria, SLAs and controls; track execution and report status.
  • Translate fraud-risk, authentication and customer-experience needs into epics, features, user stories, functional/non-functional requirements and measurable outcomes for Agile delivery teams.
  • Define product requirements across the agent trust journey, including customer authentication, agent identification, customer consent and delegated authority, agent-to-customer binding, permission/scope controls, credential or token lifecycle, transaction-time assessment, step-up/challenge paths, revocation, exceptions and servicing.
  • Partner with Fraud Risk Management, Decision Science and Data Science to identify and productize signals that help assess customer presence, agent/provider identity, delegated intent, device/session context, transaction and merchant context, behavioral patterns and anomalies.
  • Work with Technology and Enterprise/Technical/Data Architecture on solution design, APIs, events, data contracts, decisioning integrations, audit trails, telemetry, resiliency, latency and operational controls.
  • Support product controls that distinguish legitimate customer-authorized agent activity from account takeover, unauthorized delegation, agent/provider spoofing, manipulated intent, compromised agents, credential/token theft, replay and other emerging abuse patterns.
  • Coordinate with internal Product, Risk, Legal/Compliance, Information Security, Servicing and Technology partners, and where applicable external ecosystem participants, so authentication and fraud requirements are incorporated into launch roadmaps and integration designs.
  • Define and monitor success measures such as authentication success, approved fraud, false positives, customer friction, authorization outcomes, control performance, latency, exception rates and operational health; use insights to prioritize remediation and enhancements.
  • Lead or support discovery, testing, pilot readiness and post-launch reviews; convert fraud cases, defects and control gaps into prioritized product changes.
  • Maintain an external orientation to evolving agentic-commerce, digital identity and authentication standards and translate relevant changes into durable product requirements without overfitting to a single vendor or protocol.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated 5 years of product management, product ownership or product development experience delivering complex technology capabilities; experience with fraud management or real-time risk products is preferred.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across large cross-functional teams and influence business and technology partners to drive transformational change.
  • Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills, with the ability to operate in ambiguity and translate emerging needs into clear product requirements and decisions.
  • Experience with Agile/Scaled Agile practices, backlog management, feature/story development and prioritization across competing initiatives; JIRA/Confluence experience is useful.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to engage internal and external stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • High degree of organization, initiative and accountability, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and dependencies.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, technology, engineering, business management or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep and broad expertise in consumer or commercial risk management, digital payments, authentication, identity, fraud-risk technology or related processes and systems.
  • Experience with fraud authorization, authentication, decision science models, risk decisioning platforms, Amex risk capabilities/data, or another core fraud-risk management function.
  • Product exposure to Agentic AI, AI agents, agentic payments/commerce, digital identity, tokenization, developer platforms or machine-to-machine commerce.
  • Master's degree or comparable experience in management, computer science, engineering, analytics or a related discipline is a plus.
