Azure Core builds the foundational infrastructure and platform capabilities that power Microsoft Azure. As a Software Engineering Intern with Azure Core, you'll join engineering teams working on the foundational technologies behind Microsoft Azure. You'll have the opportunity to solve real engineering problems, write production-quality software, learn from experienced engineers, and see how systems are designed and operated at cloud scale. Our engineering teams work across areas such as compute, networking, storage, cloud-native technologies, fleet management, operating systems, virtualization, and distributed systems, creating the foundation on which customers build and run applications and increasingly demanding AI workloads.
Depending on your project and team, you could contribute to challenges involving cloud infrastructure, developer platforms, system reliability, performance, security, automation, or AI-enabled engineering experiences.

ResponsibilitiesAs a Software Engineering Intern, you will:
- Apply software engineering principles and creative problem-solving to real technical challenges.
- Partner with engineers and other stakeholders to understand requirements and help turn ideas into working software.
- Design, write, review, test, and debug maintainable code.
- Learn new engineering technologies, methods, and tools and apply them to your project.
- Seek feedback and use engineering best practices to continuously improve your solutions.
- Work collaboratively while owning your deliverables and managing your project effectively.
- Explore opportunities to improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, performance, and security of the systems you work on.
- Learn how modern engineering teams use AI and automation to improve how software is designed, built, tested, and operated.
Qualifications✅ Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical field with least one semester or academic term remaining after completing the internship.
- Programming experience in at least one language such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, or another object-oriented programming language.
- Strong foundation in computer science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
- You must be legally authorized to work in Romania to be eligible for this role. (Legally authorized = has citizenship or has been granted a valid visa or work permit).
- You communicate confidently in English, written and spoken — you'll work every day with teammates across Romania and around the world.
⭐ Preferred Qualifications
We're particularly interested in students who bring one or more of the following:
- Exposure to cloud computing, distributed systems, operating systems, networking, virtualization, or storage through coursework, research, personal projects, hackathons, open source, or previous internships.
- Experience building software projects individually or as part of a team.
- Exposure to AI/ML or AI-assisted software development, whether through projects, coursework, APIs, models, or developer tools.
- Curiosity, strong problem-solving skills, a growth mindset, and enthusiasm for learning how complex systems work.
You don't need to know everything before joining us. We're looking for people with strong fundamentals, curiosity, and the ability to learn.
